Residents of Kiev were prevented from removing barricades from the city streets on Saturday, despite a plan to clean the city centre by thousands adamant of 'liberating' it from artificial mountains of tyres forming blockades.
The citizens were faced with protesters adorned with helmets who were brandishing shields and batons on Kreschatik Street, who had turned out in order to prevent possible attacks on the barriers. People set on cleaning the city's streets began to leave the area soon after it was clear the guards were not going to stop defending their handmade blockades.
